GuardiansOfTheGalaxy25

The cosmically-enhanced heroes have been driven back from Hala, the elder Beast has begun to crumble under the weight of his life choices and Cyclops, Iceman and Groot have been captured by Mister Knife and the Slaughter Lords. All that, and we’ve only just reached the halfway point of The Black Vortex with this issue.

AllNewXMen39

After two weeks with no releases, this week saw the releases of not one, but two new chapters in “The Black Vortex” (before three more chapters next week). Kicking off the second month/act of Black Vortex with Chapter 5 is All-New X-Men #39 as the series finally returns to publishing in the proper order. With the Black Vortex enhanced heroes bringing the fight to Hala, the Slaughter Lords wreaking havoc as they search for the cosmic artifact, and Cyclops rejoining his old teammates, what’s next for our united Guardians and X-Men.

Divinity2

After an intriguing if somewhat hard to fully comprehend and appreciate debut, Divinity returns for the second entry in this potential epic…and feels, to a certain degree like a completely different story. One character thought to be a secondary protagonist is non-existent, the title character’s entire presence comes through the voice of another and the story as a whole is thrust into the greater world of Valiant Comics. Are any/all of these developments steps in the right direction for this title, or the wrong one?

GreenArrow40

After five chapters of somewhat lacklustre buildup and the appearance last issue of Green Arrow’s army of allies, it’s time this month for the concluding chapter of “The Kingdom.” With a legion of non-powered heroes at his back to take on all of John King’s “subjects,” will Green Arrow finally be able to take down his adversary…and save the girl?

DetectiveComics40

With three issues behind us, this month Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul bring Anarky’s New 52 debut to its conclusion. In the end, is this story and epic? Or more of a disappointment? And what exactly is the connection between Anarky and the Mad Hatter?

PrincessLeia1

Picking up right from the final scene of the original Star Wars film (Episode IV: A New Hope for the rare person out there who isn’t aware) is a good way to immediately ingrain this story in star wars lore, but it doesn’t take Mark Waid long to strike out on his own path as he endeavours to fill in the gap between Yavin IV and Hoth, at least in Princess Leia’s life.
