It’s event time! “Convergence” is here and it has taken over entirely for the mainline DC Comics superhero books. Alongside the main 8-part weekly series come a slew of monthly 2-part tie-ins, one of which centers on Batgirl. However, with all of the multiverse and the DC Universe’s history converging on one newly-formed planet, just which Batgirl is going to be taking the spotlight?

The history of the DC Universe is riddled with a long line of Crises and other “game-changing” crossover events, and now it’s that time once again. Just over three and a half years after “Flashpoint” gave rise to “The New 52,” we once again being are embarking on a crossover event that threatens to significantly change the DC Universe as we know it. It’s time for a “Convergence.”

Gail Simone and Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja team left us on a rather shocking note at the end of issue #14. The big question for this month’s issue, is where does Red Sonja go from here? Where can she go? What kind of a state is she even in at this point? Okay, that was more than one question, but they’re all aimed towards the same point.

What do you do with Darth Vader? What story do you tell with him outside the main arc of the original Star Wars trilogy? Kieron Gillen’s answer appears to be to set one of the most prolific villains in fictional history off balance and then to set him on his own mission. This isn’t about Vader doing missions for the Emperor. It isn’t even about him rooting out and destroying the rebels. So what is it about then?

After two weeks with no releases, this week saw the releases of not one, but two new chapters in “The Black Vortex” (before three more chapters next week). Kicking off the second month/act of Black Vortex with Chapter 5 is All-New X-Men #39 as the series finally returns to publishing in the proper order. With the Black Vortex enhanced heroes bringing the fight to Hala, the Slaughter Lords wreaking havoc as they search for the cosmic artifact, and Cyclops rejoining his old teammates, what’s next for our united Guardians and X-Men.
